Not much is set in stone yet but with the NCAA Final 4 decided it is worth focusing on what we might be in for this year in the NBA Playoffs! Both the West and East is a little tighter than last year, Cleveland & Golden State don’t seem as dominant as they did at this time last season, but they are sitting on top in their respective conferences. There is a lot of ways to look at how the playoffs may pan out & none really involve a crystal ball! One way which may be better than others is to look at the individual match ups as teams often hold an edge over certain opponents for one reason or another, which may not be reflected in the overall standings. We will break down the 2 conferences separately to see what we could possibly expect in First Round of this year’s NBA playoffs starting on the 14th April! Here is the Western Conference preview…

The Western Conference The First Round matchups as of today, fall out like this:

(1) Golden State Warriors vs (8) Portland Trailblazer
(2) San Antonio Spurs vs (7) Memphis Grizzlies
(3) Houston Rockets vs (6) Oklahoma City Thunder
(4) Utah Jazz vs (5) Los Angeles Clippers

(1) Golden State Warriors vs (8) Portland Trailblazer
The Warriors and Blazers have completed all 4 games this season with the Warriors sweeping the series and except for the last meeting, the Warriors have really had their way. The last meeting was a two point victory in Portland, the other three were won by an average of 25 points. In each of those three victories Golden state scored 125 or more points, and overall they have scored an average of 125 points. Prediction: Golden State in a cake walk, 4-0!

(2) San Antonio Spurs vs (7) Memphis Grizzlies
This shapes up to be an interesting series, they have played some hard fought matches. They didn’t meet in the season until February which makes it that much more interesting, since they will have played four games in 2 months by the end of March. Till now they have met three times, with the Grizzlies taking the first two games both at home, and San Antonio taking the most recent game in San Antonio. In one game, the two teams only combined for 163 points, all three games to date were decided by 8 or less points. Both teams are made up of a lot of experience and neither will be intimidated. Look for the series to reflect the regular season match-ups, low scoring & close! This should make for a long series, and if you dare take Memphis to pull off the upset 4-3! San Antonio could be playing with fire!

(3) Houston Rockets vs (6) Oklahoma City Thunder
If nothing, this series could be the most entertaining series in the West, end to end action! Average amount of points scored in the four games is 226. West scored an average of 36 points for the Thunder in the four games. The have been high scoring and for the most part they have also been close, the first three were actually decided by three or less points. Oklahoma won the first game at home but lost three since. Seems that Houston has them measured and Oklahoma’s lack of depth could be a problem in this series. I am predicting an entertaining frustrating series for Oklahoma with Houston prevailing 4-1.

(4) Utah Jazz vs (5) Los Angeles Clippers

Utah is on the rise, they haven’t been too relevant for a while and Los Angeles have disappointed in the playoffs since their rise to prominence. Could this be the year that the Clippers pull it all together? The Clippers have taken the season series 3-1 & won the three games comfortably relying on stout defense for the most part. Utah managed a six point victory at home in the highest scoring meeting, two meetings ago. Should Utah manage to open up the Clippers defense, they may have a chance but that may be a tough task over a seven game series. Our pick Clippers experience to make things easy and prevail 4-1!

We will get back to you with our East, way too early, preview later this week!
