Derek Fisher was at the Lakers training facility in El Segundo last month…..to the point where he may even have had his own parking space.
Now that’s all starting to make sense.
According to ESPN, Derek Fisher is officially eligible to re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team that traded him to Houston last February.
The NBA’s new CBA states that a player traded and then waived by the team that acquired him can’t re-sign with his original team, or until the traded contract runs out, whichever arrives first.
Fisher was bought out by the Rockets before he was eligible to invoke his option for 12-13, which made Fisher a full free agent on July 1st.
While getting even older in the backcourt isn’t exactly a goal for Mitch Kupchak, the team wouldn’t in bringing back Derek. You can never have too many winners on the bench.
Now, if the team could just find a way to get rid of Chris Duhon…..or Steve Blake (too bad every team has a parking lot).

Yes, the team is already trying to create a backcourt opening, having made it clear to the rest of the league that Chris Duhon and Steve Blake are available via trade to any interested party willing to absorb one of those contracts.
Blake n Duhon gots to go. Losing Darius Morris would hurt.
