The Indiana Pacers have added three names to their roster heading into training camp, all of them guards.
Sam Young is a strong swingman who played last season in Philadelphia. Unfortunately, his jumpshot hasn’t improved since his days as a Memphis Grizzly. Sam will likely back-up Paul George and Danny Granger…not in that order.
Point guard Blake Ahearn starred in the Development League last season. You may remember him as that short white guy at the end of the Miami Heat bench years ago (no, not Chris Quinn).
Finally, Sundiata Gaines will be headed to a new team. He didn’t get enough run in New Jersey under Avery Johnson despite being a talent from the streets of NY. Too bad he won’t get a chance to ball in front of his hometown fans next season. Gaines exploded on the scene three years ago with the Jazz, winning a memorable game against Lebron James and the Cavaliers…among other very good performances. He has since not gotten a chance to play consistent minutes at the point. The Pacers now have five PGs on their roster. I hope Sundiata makes the cut…..in my opinion, he’s the most talented of the entire group.
