Thanks to NBA Europe, the two Eastern Conference finalists from last year (and rivals) held Media Day early this year. Enjoy…..
Miami Heat:
Lebron James: “We have the potential to be a lot better….We have guys that wanna work.”
Erik Spoelstra: “I’m not even going to use the word ‘repeat…We have an opportunity to win another title. We’re the only team right now,” he said, “that can have an opportunity to win a title two years in a row. We’ll find out a lot more about ourselves in this new journey…..and it shouldn’t be the same journey.”
Spoelstra also reiterated the Heat will bring Dwyane Wade along slowly from his offseason knee surgery. “He’ll do something tomorrow,” he said of Saturday’s opening session of camp. “We’d like to put him in a position to play in regular-season games.”
Dwyane Wade is confident the knee won’t be an issue. “I will get stronger and stronger as the year goes on,” he said. “For me it’s all about how efficient can I be.
Boston Celtics:
Kevin Garnett: “I don’t have Ray’s number anymore. I’m not trying to communicate with him…..I wish Ray the best.”
Paul Pierce said he would have considered retirement if Garnett had not returned.
“I knew one thing, I wouldn’t want to go through a rebuilding phase,” said Pierce, according to the Boston Globe. “It was something I would have had to think long and hard about. If there was another team out there for me, I would have considered that…..Hopefully I can retire with Kevin. He just signed a three-year deal. I see my career ending on the path of his.”
Pierce: “We’ve added all the ingredients you need to build a championship team.”
