Source: Kirilenko & Dallas?

July 24, 2012

Andrei Kirilenko recently announced his desire to return to the NBA and, to nobody’s surprise, mentioned the Brooklyn Nets. Owner Mikhail Prokhorov is Russian, AK-47 is Russian…..nuff said.

This week, Brooklyn has apparently slid out of the running for Andrei while a new suitor has emerged…..the Minnesota Timberwolves. There’s no doubt that they’re clearing cap room for something.

But my sources say there is a darkhorse team that may get into the Kirilenko sweepstakes…..the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavs could offer a handsome one-year deal similar to Chris Kaman’s. Mark Cuban doesn’t mind spending money as long as it preserves his cap space for next summer (isn’t that what he said last summer?).

The Mavericks, by re-signing Delonte West this week, have the maximum 15 players on the roster. But when has that stopped Cuban before? Food for thought…the Rockets currently have 20 players. Training camp is far off.

If I had to put money on it (something we don’t condone here at BlogNBAsketball) I’d still bet that Kirilenko ends up in Brooklyn.

I’m just sayin’ tho…..

{Reports late Tuesday are that the Mavs will bring back Delonte West, likely on a 1-year deal.}

UPDATE: Timberwolves offered Kirilenko $20M over 2 years, pricing him way out of Dallas’s (or anyone else’s) budget. Andrei is joining the Timberwolves.
