The current starting SG in Memphis is a former Celtic named Allen.
That should be their blueprint in free agency.
Ray Allen is a free agent that’s possibly looking for, um, greener pastures (sorry).
The Memphis Grizzlies are a perennial playoff team lacking perimeter shooting.
Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are regularly double-teamed. They have few spot-up threats from three-point range, despite Mike Conley’s improvement. Rudy Gay is there, but he’s a well-paid ‘one on one’ savant not a catch n’ shoot guy.
Ray quietly has been told that next season Boston will continue to start Avery Bradley at the ’2′. Allen loves Boston, but enough to come off the bench for the remainder of his career? I don’t know…He’s got a lotta game left.
The Grizzlies tried to acquire the all-time 3-point leader at the trade deadline last season, coming very close to succeeding.
Down in Memphis, Ray would start at the SG spot and feed off the inside dominance of the Grizz ‘bigs’. It would be an ideal spot for him and his quiet, veteran presence.
Now if only Michael Heisley can muster up the cash…..oh, and read my blog.
