Saunders On Hotseat In D.C.

January 5, 2012
By

Head coach Flip Saunders may be the next coach to be fired this season.

The Washington Wizards are still winless after 7 games and there has been friction already with some of the team’s younger players. Andray Blatche feels like he’s not being utilized properly and is asking for more touches inside. The team’s star PG John Wall was frustrated following the team’s 6th loss: “It’s like everybody blanks out…Everybody going for their own. And we don’t have anybody on our team that can just go get his own bucket whenever. You see everybody being selfish on the offensive end and on the defensive end, we’re not trusting each other … If we don’t find a way to play together and win games, it could get ugly this whole season.”

In the NBA, it’s much easier to change coaches than players (just ask Paul Westphal). This young nucleus may need a new voice on the bench before the season gets out of hand. In a shortened campaign, starting 0-6 feels more like 0-12.

UPDATE 1/9: Owner Ted Leonsis has given Flip Saunders the dreaded vote of confidence.
