What’s gotten into Dan Gilbert?

November 9, 2011
By

Before I begin let me just proclaim something to the owner of the Cleveland CavaliersMy name is Martin Knezevic and I, sir, am a “bloggissist.”

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest, I must also warn you readers…I might actually say something nice about Dan Gilbert here (though I haven’t decided yet).

We all remember the rage in which ol’ Danny boy responded to the departure of Lebron James last year. His borderline ‘thug life’ tweets about LBJ and the situation he left the franchise in that summer cost him the respect of fans everywhere. Despite this, we felt happy for the guy at the 2011 NBA Draft Lottery as the Cavs got the #1 overall pick (later used on PG Kyrie Irving). But when Dan started jumping up and down like he was auditioning for the next Planet of the Apes flick, those popularity points quickly went out the window again. Then, of course, as labor negotiations heated up this past summer he stepped in social media doo-doo yet again. He came out blasting the media for leaking stories about what was going on in closed-door meetings (calling us all “bloggissists”, the nerve!). Those stories, mind you, turned out to be 100% true.

It is no secret that Dan Gilbert has been one of the more ”hardline” owners in NBA Lockout 2011. He and a few other ’head honchos’ have been seeking to radically change the salary cap system along with other monetary terms…all at the expense of the players (Lebron included, of course). But here’s the crazy part…as of the past few days Dan has backed off his demands in negotiations, according to Yahoo Sports. He is reportedly now taking a more moderate stance on the terms he considers acceptable in a new CBA (along with Robert Sarver of the Phoenix Suns). Could this just be damage control as he sees a deal might being agreed to soon?…it could be. I mean he still has players he has to ‘woo’ in future free agency periods. Their agents have long memories when it comes to $. Or maybe it’s just that Lebron James has been noticeably absent from labor talks. That has to have brought a smile to Mr. Gilbert’s face. Danny might just be in a good mood lately as a result of The King‘s busy offseason plans.

Well, whatever it is, Dan Gilbert is growing less and less annoying as this NBA Lockout appears to be winding down. And good for him…..one day he, just like LBJ, may need a life after basketball too.

Mark Cuban used to be the most annoying man on the planet. Dan Gilbert, Mr. Fake n’ Loans, has taken his place.

I don’t see anything wrong with how Dan Gilbert carries himself. It is his team and the last time I checked tweeting was perfectly legal
